Energy Efficiency

We have upgraded our heating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems as they aged, including converting natural gas heat to electric fuel pump systems, replacing incandescent lighting with fluorescent and then LED lights, adding controls on exhaust fans, and upgrading old appliances and water heaters.

Upgrading Our Heating and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

Since 2012 we have been upgrading our HVAC systems as they needed to be replaced with the most efficient systems available. Three gas furnaces and air conditioners have now been replaced with efficient electric air-source heat pumps.

Upgrading Our Lighting

Converted first to fluorescent and, as availability increased and cost decreased, to LED lights in existing or new fixtures, both indoors and outdoors.

Automatic controls were installed on restroom lights and fans.

Upgrading Old Appliances and Water Heaters

Appliances have been replaces with efficient Energy StarĀ® models.

All but two water heaters are now electric, including one
that is tankless, on-demand.

When it is time to replace the large gas water heater that serves the main kitchen, we will install an electric model on a timer, to avoid running it on weekdays when the kitchen is not being used.
