Children's Choir

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington offers many opportunities for children to participate in music, ranging from informal sing-alongs to children's choirs.
Choirs for children in grades K-8 rehearse and perform under the direction of music specialist Jill Courtney, thanks to support from the Fran Feddersen Memorial Fund. There are no auditions. All children are welcome and encouraged to participate.
The Children's Choir offers children an opportunity to acquire singing and choral skills, learn an interesting and varied repertoire of music, and perform. Sometimes, all K-8th graders rehearse together; at other times the children are divided up into a K-3rd grade choir and a 4th-8th grade choir. Choir time for the younger children may also include skill-building games and movement.
The Children's Choir performs during several church services throughout the year. When rehearsals are scheduled, they are usually 45 minutes long, from 10:15-11:00 on Sunday mornings. Rehearsals occur only when specifically scheduled. This schedule is printed in the Prologue and is also sent to parents via e-mail. Typically, there are 3 or 4 rehearsals prior to a performance. If children have missed rehearsals, their participation in the performance is at the discretion of the conductor.
- Children's Choir Director: – Our choir director, Jill Courtney, is committed to enriching the lives of children through music and movement. With just the right amount of patience, compassion and enthusiasm, she connects with children as the individuals they are while guiding them to sing as one, very special voice.
