Children's Choir Director
Jill Courtney is an experienced early childhood music and movement educator who has been teaching music to preschool and elementary school children for many years. Besides teaching elementary music in the Monroe County Schools, she has been teaching preschool music classes at the Monroe County YMCA since 1998. She also was the conductor for the youngest children of the IU Children's Choir for 7 years, when she was hired by Sue Swaney (after being a member of the choir herself when she was in elementary school!). Jill received her Bachelor of Music Education and her Masters in Early Childhood Education from Indiana University. She holds Musikgarten (R) and Kodaly teaching certifications, and professional certification with the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association. Over the years, Jill has had many wonderful musical mentors, including Mary Goetze, the late Wallace Hornibrook, Donna Hornibrook, Gwen Witten-Upchurch, the late Jean Sinor, Sarah Stevens, Sue Swaney, Ruth Boshkoff, Lorna Heyge, and Brent Gault.
