Religious Education Special Celebrations and Programs

Intergenerational Worships
A few Sundays a year RE classes are canceled and children are invited to stay with the adults for the entire service on Sunday Mornings. These highly engaging, interactive services are appealing and meaningful for everyone.
Large Group RE
For Large Group RE events the children do not split up according to age group but stay together for a special program that often includes special guests and activities.
Age of Reason Ceremony
This ceremony celebrates our first grade children's journey toward learning to read. This is a very exciting time for our children; learning to read signifies their ability to gain knowledge on their own. First graders and their parents participate together in this ceremony.
Coming of Age
Our coming of Age program matches youth with an adult in the congregation. This mentor assists the youth on their spiritual journey and encourages their growth and development in the areas of home life, personal growth, contributing to the community, and connecting with the natural world.
OWL
The Our Whole Lives (O.W.L.) program is a series of sexuality education curricula for five age groups: grades K-1, grades 4-6, grades 7-9, grades 10-12, and adults. Our Whole Lives equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives provides not only facts about anatomy and human development, but helps participants to clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.
Chalice Lighters
Children and families are invited to light the chalice at the beginning of each Sunday service. The chalice is a symbol of our faith, standing for many things, including the light of truth and the warmth of community. Traditionally, children (often accompanied by their families) light the chalice on a Sunday close to their birthday. Please contact Adrienne Summerlot if your child would like to light the chalice.
