UUADP/Toll the Bells Task Force
As Unitarian Universalists for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (UUADP), we hope to bring information and awareness to the congregation concerning death penalty issues here in the state of Indiana and in the U.S. Our Toll the Bells initiative is to hang the banner every time there is an execution in the U.S. to call public attention to the fact that an execution is happening that day, and that we need to remember that victim and all those connected with the execution. The banner proclaims: For Whom Do the Bells Toll? Executions Diminish Us All.
Public events concerning the death penalty are publicized to the congregation. We will again be involved in National Faith in Action Weekend and will have extra material/information available for the congregation at that time. Our community coalition, BCADP, is highly involved in the Moratorium initiative in Indiana and UUADP will host a forum. If there are more executions scheduled for Indiana, either at Michigan City or Terre Haute, we will ask friends and members of our congregation to be aware, to consider our first principle, and to call on the governor to halt the executions.
More people are needed to hang the banner on execution days.
